Where to Stay at Halali

Halali is the park’s central rest camp, roughly midway between Okaukuejo and Namutoni. There is no gate of its own here — everything listed on this page is inside the Etosha boundary.

Is Halali right for you?

Halali is the one Etosha area that is not organised around a gate. It sits inside the park between the southern and eastern entrances, among dolomite outcrops on the southern edge of the pan, and everything listed here is inside the boundary. That single fact shapes the whole decision.

It earns its place on an itinerary when you want to work both halves of the park without a long transfer in the middle. From Halali the western waterholes and the eastern circuit are each a reasonable day’s driving, where from Okaukuejo or Namutoni one of the two is always a long way off. Its own floodlit Moringa waterhole gives you game viewing in camp at night as well.

It is the wrong choice if you want a wide range of accommodation styles or a lodge with a spa and a restaurant menu. Halali is a rest camp and a campsite, nothing more, and there are no private properties immediately outside it — the nearest alternatives are back at Andersson or Von Lindequist. Book early: there is very little of it.

Stay at Halali

Both places listed here are inside the park at Halali Rest Camp. Staying inside the fence means you are on the road at first light, with no gate run at either end of the day, and the camp’s floodlit waterhole is a short walk from the rooms and pitches.

Access and driving

Halali has no entrance gate of its own. Almost everyone arrives through Andersson Gate in the south or Von Lindequist Gate in the east and drives in, so your arrival day is a park drive rather than a transfer — plan it as game viewing time rather than as distance to be covered.

Inside the park the roads are gravel and their condition varies with the season, so allow more time than the distances suggest. Plan the last leg around the official park and camp gate times for your travel dates, because arriving after closing is not something you can negotiate at the gate.

Both places listed above are covered in detail on this site. The comparison searches the Halali area as a whole for your dates — it is an area search, not availability for any single property here.
