Where to Stay Near King Nehale Gate

Is the northern route right for you?

King Nehale Gate makes sense for a specific kind of trip: one that is already in north-central Namibia. If your previous night was around Ondangwa, Oshakati or Omuthiya, entering here saves a long detour south to the B1. If you are coming up from Windhoek, it almost never does.

This is the smallest area on the site, and the page reflects that honestly rather than padding it out. There is no rest camp immediately inside the gate — the nearest inside-the-park accommodation is at Namutoni in the east — so a stay here means sleeping outside the boundary and driving in.

What the route offers instead is quiet. It is the least-used of Etosha’s entrances, it opens onto the Andoni plains at the top of the park, and it puts you into a section most visitors never reach. Check current opening information, permitted roads and fuel availability before you commit to it, because the northern approach has fewer fallbacks than the southern one.

Access and driving

King Nehale Gate is reached from Ondangwa and Omuthiya in north-central Namibia, not from the B1 through Tsumeb like the eastern gate. That is the whole point of it: it serves journeys that are already in the north, and it is the wrong entrance for a trip driving up from Windhoek.

Because this is the least-used way in, confirm current opening information, permitted roads and fuel availability before departure rather than assuming the southern pattern applies. Inside the park the roads are gravel, and the first sector you reach is the Andoni plains at the top of the park.
