Hoada Camp Site

Campsite

Highlight

  • Car parking Car parking

Hoada Camp Site is a rustic, rock-nestled campsite set among granite boulders on the C40 gravel road in the Khoadi Hoas Conservancy, northern Damaraland. Positioned roughly midway between Kamanjab and Palmwag, it offers a memorable overnight stop for self-drive travellers moving between Etosha National Park and the Kunene region.

The camp is best known for its natural rock-pool style swimming pool, built into the surrounding granite outcrops and overlooking wide views across the conservancy’s mopane scrubland. Each campsite has its own private ablution area built into the rocks, along with a braai (barbecue) area and shaded parking.

Accommodation is in permanent walk-in safari tents pitched on the site, furnished with proper beds and bedding, making this an appealing option for travellers who want a comfortable camping experience without needing to bring their own tent.

Hoada Camp Site is well suited to travellers exploring the route between Etosha and Damaraland, or those touring onward towards Palmwag, the Grootberg Plateau and the Skeleton Coast. Its location on the C40 makes it a practical and scenic overnight stop for self-drive itineraries through north-western Namibia.

Conservancy and Setting

Khoadi Hoas is one of Namibia’s long-established communal conservancies, where local communities manage tourism and wildlife alongside farming activities. Staying at a community-linked campsite like Hoada gives travellers some exposure to this conservancy model, which is a significant part of how conservation and tourism work together in this part of Namibia. The granite boulder landscape around the camp is typical of the wider Damaraland region.

What to Expect

Hoada Camp Site suits travellers who want a memorable, scenic overnight stop rather than a full-service lodge experience. Facilities are simple but well-designed around the natural rock setting, and the fitted safari tents mean guests do not need their own camping equipment. As with most conservancy campsites, it is sensible to confirm current facilities, meal arrangements (if any) and site-specific details directly with the camp before arrival.

Nearby Options

Travellers continuing towards Palmwag can also consider Palmwag Lodge for a more resort-style option in the same general area, or explore other accommodation around Kamanjab when planning the wider Etosha-Damaraland route.

Because Hoada Camp Site is set within a working communal conservancy rather than a private reserve, wildlife sightings around the camp itself are a bonus rather than guaranteed, and travellers wanting dedicated game drives should plan those separately, for example inside Etosha National Park.

Getting There

Hoada Camp Site is reached via the C40 gravel road, which is generally well maintained but should still be driven with care, particularly around dusk when wildlife can be on the move. A reliable vehicle suited to gravel roads is recommended for this stretch of Damaraland, and travellers should allow extra time compared with tarred sections of their itinerary. Fuel should be topped up in Kamanjab before heading further into this remote area, since services become sparser beyond this point.

Booking and Practicalities

Given its remote, conservancy-based setting, Hoada Camp Site is best booked in advance rather than approached as a same-day stop, particularly during Namibia’s busier dry-season travel months. Guests should also carry sufficient water and basic supplies for this stretch of the route, as is generally sensible practice when travelling through remote parts of Damaraland.
