Khorixas Area

Khorixas lies west of Etosha and functions mainly as a gateway between the park and Damaraland's better-known attractions, such as Twyfelfontein's rock engravings and the Petrified Forest, rather than as a base for daily game drives inside Etosha itself. It is a modest town with basic shops and fuel, useful as a refuelling stop rather than a destination. Travellers typically pass through or stay near Khorixas when building a wider northern Namibia itinerary that links Etosha's western section with Damaraland and onward routes to the coast, rather than those focused solely on the park. Accommodation in the area tends towards guesthouses and small lodges geared towards this kind of multi-stop touring itinerary, often at more affordable rates than lodges closer to the park gates. Because Khorixas is some distance from Galton Gate and the western Etosha entrances, it suits travellers who have already spent time in the park and are continuing their journey rather than those wanting to be inside the gates every morning.
