Kamanjab sits north-west of Etosha, on the route many travellers use when combining the park with Damaraland and the wider Kaokoland region, and it is one of the more practical bases for reaching the park's western side via Galton Gate. The town itself is small, but it has grown into something of a hub for guest farms and lodges offering their own game drives, several of which focus on cheetah and other predator conservation projects in the surrounding farmland. This makes Kamanjab appealing to visitors who want wildlife encounters outside the park as well as inside it, particularly if their Etosha time is limited to the quieter western section around Dolomite. Staying here suits travellers heading onward to Khorixas, Twyfelfontein or the Skeleton Coast rather than those planning to spend most of their trip at Okaukuejo or Namutoni in the south and east. Road conditions on some routes around Kamanjab include gravel sections, so allow extra time and check current conditions before travelling.
